Nov 21, 2011  Macros for the DuinoMite in Sprint Layout. Thread starter bryan1; Start date Nov 20. Well as the Arduino pinout on boards are weird spacing I just made up a temple and saved it as a macros so when I want to design a new shield board I won't have to manually go thru the pain of the spacing again. The Uno32 is already in the sprint layout.

How protect original layout in Excel, Word 2010

(4 posts)

Hi, I create forms in Excel 2010 and Word 2010 that are to be filled out (in their electronic form) by people not very computer savvy. How do I protect my original layout, headings etc against unintentional changes?

I know I can write-protect the forms but that would mean that the user would have to 'save as' using another document name and that's no good plus even this would likely be too involved for the intender users.

Yamaha dgx 505 driver for mac. I want to keep the the original file name as well as the original layout with only the user input added.

Is this at all possible?

Thank you.

If you save your original as a template then it will always be the same. You can add extra protection features. Go to file > info > when the info tab opens you will have a permissions box with several options for protection. One of the options is to 'restrict editing' > a drop down box pops up with some options one being allowing only filling in the form. The ones you send out save as a .docx

germ-x, you say: 'If you save your original as a template then it will always be the same.' Well then, how do I do that?
I'll u/l an example where column A contains my headings and which is to be protected and columns B-G are for user input.
Remember I want, if possible, the user to be able to save on the original file-name. Else it gets too involved plus I want the
file name to remain the same, I'll track versions via 'file-created-date'.

Hi Venusandmars

In Excel you can protect the sheet and designate which cells are to be open for editing.

First, highlight all the user input cells and click on Home/Format/Format Cells and then click on the Protection tab and ensure that Locked is un-checked.
Just to be sure, highlight the cells you want to protect and then ensure that Locked is checked.
Then click on Home/Format/Protect Sheet and you will be given a range of options to allow or deny access to the sheet.
You will be asked to supply a password which will unprotect the sheet. This is optional but advisable if one of your users is savvy enough to try to un-protect the sheet.

So now your sheet is protected from unwanted changes.

In regards to saving the workbook with the same name I would need more information about the delivery mechanisms i.e. do you send each user a copy of the workbook or are they all accessing the same workbook on a network? If it is the former, how do they get the workbook to you . via email?

There are many ways you can determine how and when the file is saved and under what name and even how it is delivered to you but all that can get pretty complex. Usually the simplest method (even if it does require some manual intervention by you) is the best option. However, if you want to go that route please send more information about the workflow.

Sprint Layout Edit Macros 2010

A macro is a teensy program you can write in Word 2010 that automates things, such as repetitive keystrokes or tasks. You start making a macro by recording it.

1In the View tab, choose Macros→Record Macro.

The Record Macro dialog box appears.

2Give the macro a name in the Record Macro dialog box.

Click the Keyboard button to assign a keyboard shortcut to the macro. This approach is easier than choosing the Button option, which is more work.

3Type a keyboard shortcut combination.

Most of the good combinations are already used by Word, though many of the Ctrl+Alt+letter combinations aren’t. Click the Assign button.

4Click the Close button.

You’re now recording a macro in Word. Everything you do is recorded, from typing text to choosing commands and setting options.

5To stop recording, choose Macros→Stop Recording.

The macro is saved.

6To play back the macro, press the keyboard shortcut you assigned.

Word repeats all actions taken while the macro was being recorded, playing them back as though you just issued the commands or typed the text yourself.
